Today I sat on Bailey, my 3 1/2 year old Haflinger, for the first time, and it was a total non-event. He was calm, relaxed and took to it happily and willingly. I firmly believe that this would not have been possible without Viki's help. When Viki first met Bailey a few months ago, he was nippy, biting, bargy and generally calling the shots. I thought I had been a good leader to him, but obviously not good enough!

I have done a groundwork course with Richard Maxwell, and courses / demos with Kelly Marks, Monty Roberts & Ben Hart amongst others. I tend to lean towards Richard Maxwell's methods, which sit very well with Viki's work.

The sessions I had with Viki gave me an insight into communicating with Bailey that I have not been able to find elsewhere. It went far beyond "Do A, B and C, and your horse will do X, Y and Z".  Viki is excellent at explaining the subtleties of communicating, and how important it was for me to think about my energy and rewarding him to let him know he got it right!  There were things that I had seen other trainers do, but Viki explained exactly what she was doing, why she was doing it, and how the horse responds.

Viki gave me the confidence to progress with Bailey's training and is always there for advice and support if we have a setback!

Please find below a selection of clients’ kind words of gratitude for the changes made with them and their equine partners.

I take this opportunity to thank them all for embracing an open minded approach to my techniques and for trusting both in themselves their horses and me.

Q&A

Thanks for the brilliant lesson I had yesterday - I am over the moon about the fence mounting issue.  I can’t wait to try riding in a more natural way - Vic will be so grateful to you.

Bringing my horse in from the field was always a challenge I dreaded but after just one session with Viki where we worked in the school first to create a communication my warmblood mare could understand and relate to, she now respects my space at gateways and stands quietly whilst I fasten catches etc.  Such a simple thing but it’s changed my whole relationship with her.

I really never realised I could change my ridden work from the ground until I met Viki.  Understanding how to use and direct my energy and control my intention with my horse on-line has had a hugely positive impact on the connection I have with my horse when I ride.  Now, when riding, I can control my horse’s speed just from the energy and muscle control within my body.  I also place much more importance on breathing too!

My handsome 14.3hh gelding is a very nervous chap and gets really worried when simply walking past objects around our yard.  This translates to nervousness of tractors and large vehicles when we are out, which was always a worry.  Viki helped us by changing the way I handled him on a daily basis so he was much more willing to trust and respect me in difficult situations.  We worked on some desensitisation techniques to help him with noises, flapping objects, etc, then she showed me how to introduce my horse to and help him accept the things in his environment, as well as how to build his confidence with traffic on the roads.  Life is so much safer these days and I have a happy chap who, despite still being startled from time to time, copes so much better with what life puts in his way.

Thank you for helping me understand my Fell pony and improve my handling skills.  Leading is a pleasure now instead of a fight.

I’m so grateful for your help with the trailer loading problems we were experiencing.  It’s such a relief to know I can go places and not have my day ruined with the worry of loading to leave.

Your desensitisation techniques are brilliant.  Thank you for helping me understand my horse better and for helping my horse become braver and calmer.

Thanks for helping me with handling my daughter’s horse.  You fill me with such confidence when you’re there but I’m pleased to say I’m getting so much better when on my own with him now, too.

I can thoroughly recommend Viki for helping you ‘rebalance your life with your horse’.  That phrase really is the best way to describe what she has done for me and I am eternally grateful.

You have taught me to listen to my horses with my eyes and rely on my instincts more, as they seem to be right, but until now I haven’t trusted myself - I realise now that if I can’t trust myself then how can I expect my horses to.

I just wanted you to know that I rode out by myself today - first time in over 3 years - and couldn’t stop smiling.  Thank you so much for such life-changing help and advice.  Stay safe and have fun - I am!

Having learnt many techniques and strategies from Viki for handling my horses in various situations I am so much more confident.  I know I can deal with most things now and my confidence just keeps on growing.

Thank you for all you have taught me.  I feel I am improving all the time and have a much greater level of trust with my horse.   We still have a long way to go as I realise her issues are very deep but I have no doubt we can now move forward positively together.

Thanks so much for your help and advice. It has made such a difference to us, especially in terms of our confidence, and as our confidence grows we relax a little and Billy really seems to pick up on this and we all enjoy ourselves more. You helped us understand how to work with Billy and just this week when leading him back from our field to the one you worked in with him, he walked so much better on the halter and lead rope you gave us.  We really appreciate your help and would like to book another lesson when you come up in October.

I cannot thank you enough for what you have done for me and my boy Jesuria.  The benefit of your ground work, softening and ridden knowledge has given us the beginnings of a partnership we have been looking for for so many years.  A question to you now Viki - When are you going to rewrite the rule book for the BHS?  Everyone should be learning your way as, in my opinion, there is no other way to be with horses and extract their potential in a way that seems to make so much sense to them.  Many thanks again and please never stop what you are doing . . .!

“At last I have found someone who appreciates my donkeys’ intelligence, helped me understand their behaviour and how to deal with issues; barging, separation, fears etc.  Walks are much more pleasurable now.  Viki has also given me the tools to build on our relationship and enrich their lives”

I honestly believe that Ben would have remained a field ornament and I would have never ridden him again if it were not for you.  Thank you!

I just want to say thank you so much for everything.  I saw today so much of that lovely little pony I bought and am feeling very positive about our future together - thanks to you. Mx

Thank you for coming out to see us earlier this week.  You gave me a lot of my confidence back, for that I thank you.  I know this will be tested but at least I know I can get control back.

Thank you very much for your training with Buster.  He came out of the field last night beautifully and went into it well this morning.  He did hurry on the path to the stable but, using your techniques, I was able to back him up and slow him down.  It was fascinating to watch the process.  Many thanks.

There is a saying, “when the pupil is ready the teacher will appear”.  Well that was certainly the case for me.

I first met Viki some four years ago now.  I was going through a tough time with my horse and it had got to the stage where either I would sustain a serious injury or we would part company.

Viki manages not only to teach her craft with such clarity but also to adapt her teaching to help the individual student.  For example, I was struggling with trying to position myself effectively doing some rope work, Viki managed to get it through to me by likening it in shape to a slice of cake!  Which of course did the trick!

Throughout our friendship she has always been there to support, encourage and explain, if necessary, countless times, which of course means she seems to have infinite patience.

Her ability to read horses and work with them is a real joy to watch, her focus and skill in connecting with them is a talent I think all horse owners would envy.

Finally, Viki has helped me to believe in myself, which for my part has been quite life changing.

Thanks, Viki, for the last four years and here’s to the next 20... which incidentally makes me 79!  June x
