People often refer to me as a ‘Horse Whisperer’ or ‘Natural Horsewoman’ and I’ve even been called ‘Organic’, but whatever you like to call it, I think of it as working with the whole horse – mentally, emotionally & physically.  I work with an open mind, open heart and open hand with every horse I meet, whether it is to develop its potential, resolve problematic behaviour or to rebuild a loss of confidence, which is also a common factor applicable to humans.  It is essential that we understand how the horse learns and what makes him ‘tick’ in order to get the best from him and help him integrate more confidently into the human world and become your trusted partner.

In establishing a foundation for your horse you will find an harmonious, fulfilling and safe future with your horse(s), whatever your goals together as a partnership.  I work with a broad range of objectives from raising awareness as to how the horse perceives things to supporting those with more traditional ambitions in the performance world, not withstanding western disciplines, pleasure riding and similar pursuits.

REBALANCE YOUR LIFE WITH YOUR HORSE

I provide advice, assistance, instruction and guidance for horse owners and enthusiasts throughout the UK and Europe.  I can help you to develop yourself and your horse, and gain confidence in your chosen discipline or simply work with you to help solve handling issues.  By following the links at the top of the page you can learn more about the importance of a solid foundation and also gain a more in depth description of the services I can offer you and your horse.

Other things to check out on the site are the ‘Thought of the Moment’ below, where I regularly add a short thought provoking paragraph to get you thinking about things that perhaps you hadn’t considered before, and the ‘Learning’ page where I also write up articles to help you keep learning from a distance;  the ‘Q&A’ page is where I publish answers to questions I have been asked that I think may be helpful to others; find out where I am, what I am doing and where I plan to be on the ‘Diary’ page, but please feel free to contact me at any time if you need my help but don’t see that I am planning to come to your area – anything can be arranged at any time; finally, don’t bypass the ‘Gallery’ and ‘Client Portrait’ pages where you can see photos of students and myself working with various horses.

I am always interested in any ideas or discoveries others have made that may contribute to the welfare and harmony of the horse / human partnership, as well as hearing your individual stories, situations and questions, so get emailing!

I look forward to hearing from you.  Happy trails.  Viki.

HORSES HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES:

Horses have the right to express themselves / their needs / their feelings.

Just as humans respond differently to situations dependent upon previous experiences and whether they have a tendency to be confident, unconfident, introverted or extroverted – SO DO HORSES.  Left brained (thinking) or right brained (prey animal response - flight or fight), introverted or extroverted, we need to understand the behaviour in order to help the horse accept and adjust to a situation.  To tie a horse’s mouth shut because he opens it or crosses his jaw, to use a stronger bit because he won’t stop, to restrict the horses head with a martingale because he holds it too high etc, denies the horse the opportunity to let us know what he really thinks.  Instead of treating the symptom – seek knowledge and understanding to treat the cause instead.

TESTIMONIALS

“the changes I have in my relationship with my horse have been amazing . . .”

“. . . I feel I have found my horse.  We understand each other through respect and understand and enjoy every minute we are together without the antics and frustrations of the past.  You were right Viki in your quote “we all have the time to do things the wrong way but never the time to do it right”  Having changed my approach I go to the field and my horse comes to me, no more pulling or shoulder barging instead we have calm walks with a loose rope wherever we go, and he doesn’t invade my space without me wanting him there, its wonderful.  Thank you again”

“ . . . thank you for your time in both the Introduction to Groundwork and the Furthering Groundwork clinics.  Prior to coming I could not understand the fullness of the benefits being offered.  That was then - it all became clear in your clinics and the results achieved since with your continued support have been fantastic.  The control from the saddle and the fluidity in which the communication has become a common language between us has built an unbeatable partnership that has a value of incomprehensible limits.  Thank you so much for sharing your methods and understanding, and may many others start looking at their horses with your open mind, open heart, open hand approach (if you don’t mind me quoting you) creating a communication without force but purely through true equine understanding.”

LATEST NEWS

06.06.2012 - We recently had two new horses introduced into our herd and I never tire of watching the interactions.  The basic pattern of behaviour is always the same but the amount of energy used in the process and the timescale in which the new horse is accepted into the herd always differs.  If you would like me to write more about this then please let me know and I would be happy to oblige.

06.06.2012 - What about this weather then?  Where is the summer?  I think I’ve lost more lesson time to the inclement weather this summer than I did throughout the winter.  Unfortunately it has meant that the summer clinic series I was planning to hold in my fields has been a non-starter to this point.  I am hopeful that we might get something in at the back end of the summer though so watch this space, or please do get in touch if you are interested in hosting a clinic - especially if you have access to an indoor arena!!!  You can read more about the different clinics on the services page - or we can draw up a clinic plan to suit your specific requirements.

05.08.2012 - What’s been happening this week?

Not much to report really - it’s been a pretty normal week!!!.  (Images below)
