EU Cookie Law and Policies:

Firstly, what are cookies and how do they work?

A cookie is a text file containing information that can be remembered by a web browser between pages. When an individual uses a web browser to access the internet their browser can create cookies which are stored on the user’s computer. Cookies are not programs and therefore cannot contain viruses or other malicious software. They are purely a string of text and numbers.

There are two main types of cookies - session cookies and persistent cookies.

Session cookies only last during a single visit. When a user closes their web browser the session cookie information is automatically removed from their computer. The Beau Cheval website uses session cookies for two purposes:

Persistent cookies have an expiry date which controls when they are automatically deleted. This can be anything from a few minutes to several years ours are set to 5 years.

When a visitor first looks at a page on our site, a simple statistic counter cookie is placed in their browser (if allowed). Then, as you, the visitor, browses our site, the cookie tells us that you are not a new/distinct/separate visitor visiting our site each time. Instead, you are the same visitor looking at several different pages.

You should note that it IS possible for you to disable all cookies in your browser.

When you have cookies disabled, we have no way of knowing if you are a unique visitor or not. If you have cookies disabled, then each page of our site that you view will be considered to be a ‘pageload’ by a Unique Visitor. Obviously, this is not strictly correct, but since most visitors will have cookies enabled, this does give us a fairly accurate overview of our Unique Visitors.

The reasons for us implementing such a counter system is to enable us to generate page load statistics for what you are looking at and are most interested in so that we can keep adding new content to keep you returning to our site, learning more. It’s as simple as that, we just, as of this year have to legally highlight that we use cookies and what we use them for.

Sorry to bore you . . . legalities!
